Boot modification
This document is only for Leapster Explorer and LeapPad Explorer 1. It does not apply to the LeapsterGS Explorer or the LeapPad Explorer 2.
Shadow needs to be enabled for UART boot and NAND boot to work with the cartridge plugged in. NOR boot will no longer function once this modification is performed. To make the device work without the cartridge, you should also change the boot mode resistors.
Leapster Explorer
These instructions are not verified, beware.
To enable shadow on the Leapster Explorer, you need to move R77 to its alternate position, R123. In the picture on the left, you'd move the resistor to the left.
To enable NAND boot, you'll need to move another resistor. Move R85 to R115's position. In the picture on the right, you'd move the resistor one place to the right.
LeapPad Explorer 1
These instructions are not verified, beware.
To enable shadow on the LeapPad Explorer 1, you need to move R116 to its alternate position, R115. In the picture on the left, you'd move it up.
To enable NAND boot, you'll need to move two resistors. For SD5, move R85 to its alternate position, R111. For SD6, move R116 to its alternate position, R115. In the picture on the right, you'd move the first resistor down and the second resistor up.
